TravelTalk – Terms & Conditions

1. Acceptance of Terms

By downloading, installing, or using TravelTalk ("the App", "the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms & Conditions ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the App.

These Terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you and the developer of TravelTalk ("we", "us", or "our").

      You must be at least 13 years old to use TravelTalk. By using the App, you confirm that you meet this age requirement.
    

2. Description of Service

TravelTalk is a real-time language translation application for Android that provides:

Live speech-to-text transcription and translation
Face-to-face bilingual conversation mode
Camera-based text recognition and translation
AI-powered travel guidance (Atlas AI assistant)
Trip Mode country profiles and cultural tips
Emergency phrase library
Conversation journaling
Offline language pack support

The Service relies on third-party APIs including Deepgram, OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Firebase, and Google ML Kit. Service availability depends on the availability of these underlying services.

3. User Accounts

To access certain features, you must create an account using your email address and password, or sign in with Google.

You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials.
You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.
You must provide accurate and up-to-date information when creating your account.
You may not share your account with others or create accounts for the purpose of abuse.

You may delete your account at any time from Settings → Delete Account. Deletion is permanent and removes all your data from our servers.

4. Acceptable Use

You agree to use TravelTalk only for lawful purposes. You must not:

Use the App to translate or communicate content that is illegal, harmful, threatening, abusive, or defamatory
Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract the source code of the App
Use the App to transmit malware, spam, or unauthorized advertising
Attempt to gain unauthorized access to our backend services or other users' accounts
Circumvent, disable, or interfere with security features of the App
Use the App in any way that could damage, overload, or impair our servers or infrastructure

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.

5. Free Tier & Subscription

Free Tier

TravelTalk offers a free tier that includes limited usage of core features including live translation and speech recognition. Free tier limits are displayed within the App and are subject to change.

Premium Subscription

Premium access unlocks unlimited usage of all features. Subscriptions are managed through Google Play.

Subscription fees are charged to your Google Play account upon confirmation of purchase.
Subscriptions automatically renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current billing period.
You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time through your Google Play account settings.
No refunds are provided for partial subscription periods, except where required by applicable law.

      Prices are subject to change. Any price changes will be communicated in advance and will take effect at the start of your next billing period.
    

6. Translation Accuracy

TravelTalk is designed to assist with communication but is not a substitute for professional translation services. Translation accuracy varies by language, audio quality, and context.

      Do not rely solely on TravelTalk for medical, legal, emergency, or any high-stakes communication. Always verify critical translations through a qualified human translator or interpreter.
    

We are not liable for any misunderstandings, errors, or consequences arising from inaccurate translations. The emergency phrase library is provided as a convenience and should be verified against local resources before travel.

7. Intellectual Property

All content, features, code, design, and functionality of TravelTalk — including but not limited to text, graphics, logos, icons, and software — are the exclusive property of the developer and are protected by applicable intellectual property laws.

You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the App on your personal Android device solely for its intended purpose in accordance with these Terms.

You retain ownership of any content you create within the App (e.g., conversation journal entries). By saving content to our servers, you grant us a limited licence to store and process that content solely to provide the Service to you.

8. Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to:

Implied warranties of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose
Uninterrupted, error-free, or secure operation of the Service
Accuracy or completeness of translations or AI-generated content
Continued availability of any feature or third-party integration

Third-party services (Deepgram, OpenAI, Anthropic, Firebase) may experience outages or changes outside our control. We are not responsible for the availability or performance of third-party services.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, the Service.

Our total liability to you for any claim arising from these Terms or your use of the Service shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or USD $10, whichever is greater.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or limitation of liability for certain types of damages. In such jurisdictions, our liability is limited to the fullest extent permitted by law.

10. Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to TravelTalk at any time, with or without notice, if we believe you have violated these Terms or if required by law.

You may stop using the App at any time. To delete your account and all associated data, go to Settings → Delete Account.

Upon termination, all licences granted to you under these Terms will immediately cease. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (including Disclaimers, Limitation of Liability, and Governing Law) shall survive.

11. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will update the Effective Date at the top of this page. Significant changes will be communicated via an in-app notice.

Your continued use of TravelTalk after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms.

12. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with applicable laws, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising from these Terms shall be resolved through good-faith negotiation. If a dispute cannot be resolved informally, it shall be submitted to the courts of competent jurisdiction.
